THE INTERACTIVE SOLAR SYSTEM FOR GRADE 6 FOURTH QUARTER.pptx

Slide Content

The solar system is set up by the sun, eight planets, moons, and other Object that revolve around the sun. The sun is the center of the solar system, but we must remember it is not a planet, it is a _____. Planets are a large ball-shaped body that travels around the sun. The eight planets that make up the solar system are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Each planet has their own moons.

Like the rest of the planets in the solar system, Earth revolves around the sun and rotates on its axis. The axis is the imaginary line that runs between the South Pole and the North Pole. Look at the picture and locate the axis. Notice how the Earth is tilted to your right and not straight? This is because the axis of the Earth is tilted about 24 degrees away from the sun. When we talk about rotation we mean to say the movement of a planet on its own axis. Earth always rotates counter clockwise. Axis Equator Earth´s spin direction

What Is Revolution? Revolution is a complete trip around the sun. Which is responsable of the seasons. Each trip around the sun is called a year , but all planets revolve differently depending on their distance from the sun. For example, Earth takes about 365 days to make a complete trip around the sun, while Mercury takes only 88 days and Neptune takes about 164 years because it is so far away. Can you spot Nepturne on the picture?

Inner Planets Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. These are the planets closest to the sun; also known as Rocky Planets. They are called that because they are solid worlds with hard rocky surfaces.

Copy Information about Inner Planets Planet Description Picture Mercury Closest planet to the sun. Has no atmosphere . Venus 2nd planet . Has a cabon dioxyde atmosphere . Hottest planet. Earth 3rd planet. Only known planet to have liquid water and life. Mars 4th planet. Has many minerals that make it look red. Is Very cold and has extreme dust storms

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune make up the outer planets in the solar system. These planets are very cold, stormy, and have a gas surface, so you wouldn´t be able to step on them. Pluto is a dwarf planet located in the outer layer of the solar system. It was considered a planet before, but scientist decided it wasn´t a planet like Earth or Venus because it is smaller than the moon and there are other larger dwarf planets out there.

Copy Information about Outer planets Planet Description Picture Jupiter 5th planet. Largest planet. Long lasting storms . Saturn 6th planet. Has the biggest rings . Very windy Uranus 7th planet. Very cold and windy . Has Diamond rain Neptune 8th planet. Coldest planet. Very stormy and windy .

Copy vocabulary in your notebook Planet : large ball-shaped body that revolves, or travels around, the sun. Solary System : The sun, the eight planets and their moons, and other objects that revolve around the sun. Axis : Imaginary line that runs between the North pole and the South pole. Rotation : One complete spin on an axis. Revolution : One complete trip around the sun. Orbit : The path an Object takes as it revolves around the sun. 4 inner planets : Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are the planets closest to the sun and have rocky surfaces. 4 outer planets : Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are the largest planets mostly made of gas and are farther away from the sun. Pluto : Dwarf planet, smaller than Earth´s moon.
