Starting a new job can be a difficult challenge, especially if you’re already retired. Looking to get back into the game, 70-year-old widower Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) seizes the opportunity to become a senior intern at an online fashion site, About The Fit. Ben soon becomes popular with his younger co-workers, eventually warming up to skeptical Jules Ostin (Anne Hathaway), the boss and founder of the company. Whittaker’s charm, wisdom and sense of humour help him develop a special bond and growing friendship with Jules. The film explores the dynamics of different age groups, where they are in life and second chances. The movie highlights themes of Diversity, Personality, Cultural Values and more. We will be focusing on Personality through The Big 5 Personality Model by analyzing some key characters in the film.

Jules Ostin’s Character Analysis Openness to experience Conscientiousness Extraversion Agreeableness Emotional Stability Jules is very innovative and creative, running a booming online fashion company. However, she is not so open to accepting new experiences. She constantly wants to learn and improve to achieve her highly ambitious goals. She was skeptical about implementing the senior intern program but later got comfortable working with Ben. She is eminently conscientious. She is diligent, meticulous, and devoted to her company. She aims to maintain high standards concerning the company and expects the same from her team. When it comes to extraversion, Jules ranges from being moderately extravert to highly extroverted. She respects personal boundaries but at the same time is a dynamic leader. She enjoys social gatherings and interactions with her team. Despite this, she likes to remain private about her personal life. She exhibits low as well as high agreeableness. While she appreciates the input of her team and is compassionate towards them, she also micromanages everything. As a result, she finds it difficult to delegate and puts a lot of pressure on herself to accomplish the targets. This causes an imbalance of work life and personal life, making her anxious and unsatisfied on a personal front. She exhibits moderate neuroticism. When she finds her husband emotionally distant, she begins to doubt her decision to not hire an external male CEO. She finds it difficult to strike a balance and blames herself for it. She is enveloped with self-doubt when the situation becomes overwhelming. She looks for emotional support from the people around her when she is anxious and impuissant. However, she is always resilient in the face of these obstacles. Jules Ostin is one of the protagonists of the movie “The Intern”. She is a successful female CEO of a start-up, having achieved tremendous success in a very short period. She is an entrepreneur who is very hardworking and is heavily involved with the day-to-day work in the office. She maintains an open channel of communication and executes democratic leadership. She considers herself an exemplar of feminism but some of her actions and personality traits contradict this. The personality of the owner and its employees plays a very significant role in the success or failure of the organization. To delve more into this let’s take some insights about Jules Ostin’s personality using the Big Five Model.

Cameron is the co-CEO of About The Fit, an online fashion store alongside Jules Ostin, our main character. Jules and him make a good team often contrasting each other and thereby balancing the dynamic. Cameron is an interesting supporting character to analyse . We shall use the Big 5 Personality Model to understand him better: Openness to Experience: Cameron is an open person. A great example of his strong openness characteristic is always seeking to try out novel concepts in the fashion world. He was the one who spearheaded the hiring of a senior intern. Conscientiousness: Cameron shifts between high and low conscientiousness, similar to many entrepreneurs. He is goal-oriented and determined. However he may miss details at times in pursuit of the larger picture. Extraversion: Given his position as a CEO, Cameron appears to be extroverted. He is a public-facing CEO, which means interacting & networking with tons of people on the go. Agreeableness: He is generally kind; however, his competitive spirit might indicate a lower agreeableness score. He quickly suggested hiring a male CEO when Jules was overworked to balance it out. Emotion Stability/Neuroticism: Working in a start-up’s high-stress environment can be taxing. Nonetheless, Cameron appears to have a low level of neuroticism based on his ability to remain composed under stress. Cameron’s Character Analysis:
