Presented by: BATO, JEAN B. K TO 12 / MATATAG CURRICULUM THE LEARNERS IN THE EYES OF THE
We live in the digital age, where technology shapes how we live, learn, and communicate. From waking up to going to bed, we are surrounded by devices like computers, phones, and other gadgets. This reality shapes the kind of students we teach today. OVERVIEW
WHO ARE TODAY’S LEARNERS? Today's learners are mostly part of Generation Z (born after 1997 ). This term, introduced by William Strauss and Neil Howe in 1992 , refers to people who have grown up with digital technology. Marc Prensky ( 2001 ) calls them digital natives because: They have used technology and social media from a young age. They easily adapt to new and emerging technologies. They are comfortable with emails, text messaging, and online communication.
WHY IT MATTERS FOR TEACHERS? It is because Generation Z learners are highly tech-savvy, the K to 12 Curriculum is designed to meet their needs and interests. Teachers must: Understand the digital world students live in. Integrate technology into lessons. Use strategies that make learning interactive and relevant.
Generation Z learners, or digital natives, grew up with technology and often think nonlinearly, multitask, and work independently. While they can process complex information, they may have shorter attention spans and struggle with sustained focus. Many classrooms mix these tech-savvy students with teachers who are digital immigrants (born before widespread digital technology).
CLASSROOMS ALSO CONTAIN DIVERSE LEARNERS WITH VARYING BACKGROUNDS, INTERESTS, AND LEARNING STYLES. BERNICE MCCARTHY IDENTIFIES FOUR LEARNER TYPES: Type 1: Imaginative Learner TYPE 2 - ANALYTICAL LEARNERS TYPE 3- COMMON-SENSE LEARNERS TYPE 4- DYNAMICS LEARNERS
TYPE 1 - IMAGINATIVE LEARNERS: Reflective, feeling-oriented, value discussion and collaboration, seek to understand "why" something is learned.
TYPE 2 - ANALYTICAL LEARNERS: Knowledge-focused, prefer facts and concepts, work best alone, and solve problems systematically.
TYPE 3- COMMON-SENSE LEARNERS: Hands-on problem-solvers who like experimenting and demonstrating, but may struggle with abstract concepts.
TYPE 4- DYNAMICS LEARNERS: They tend to favor creating and acting as their way to learn. They often look for creative ways to tackle problems through trial and error and they believe they can influence what happens.
Each type of learners is unique. People learn in different ways. People vary in their learning styles based on: Who they are Where they are How they see themselves What people ask of them
