2. Project Based Learning Project-based learning is basically learning by doing a project. It is a type of learning that is student directed. Students will work in small groups and create or do some sort of project that enforces the classroom learning. This type of education encourages critical thinking skills and research has shown that students have better retention of the material learned because they are actually putting it to use. Students also gain a better understanding of how the subject matter will be used in real world situations.

3. Summary of Project This project will have students creating a habitat for a caterpillar and watching it go through the stages of metamorphosis and turning into a butterfly. The students will work together to build the habitat and write their observations each day in a journal. At the end we, as a class, will have a butterfly release ceremony.
