MEANING OF GUIDANCE It refers to an advice, a help or a relevant piece of information given to individual espacially to a student on matters like choosing a course, a career, or a vocation from a person who is superior in the respective field or an expert. It is a process of guiding, supervising, or directing a person to a particular course of action.

Guidance involves personal help given by someone. It is designed to assist individuals to decide where they want to go, what they want to do, or how they can best accomplish their purpose. Arthur J. Jones

Guidance is a form of systematic assistance, aside from regular instructions to students or to others to help them acquire knowledge and wisdom, free from compulsion or prescription, and calculated to lead to self-direction. Carter V. Good

Bennett sees guidance as a process of assisting individuals to determine their physical, social, intellectual and personal assets and liabilities as well as to know the conditions, requirements, and opportunities of the situation confronting them so that they can make intelligent choice and adjustment and embark upon suitable course of action. Frank Parsons developed the idea of matching careers to talents, skills and personality. He is regarded as the founder of the vocational guidance movement. He developed the talent-matching approach, which was later developed into the Trait and Factor Theory of Occupational Choice. He is known as Frank Parsons “The Father of Guidance”.

In 1932, a psychological clinic was started by Dr. Sinforoso S. Padilla which concerned itself on cases of student discipline, as well as emotional, academic, and vocational problem. This leads to organized the Philippine Asso- ciation of Guidance Counselors and the promolgation of Guidance & Counseling Act of 2004. He is known as in the Philippines. Sinforoso S.
