THE NATURE OF LIGHT
NATURE OF LIGHT Nature of light or the propagation of light can be explain in two theories Wave theory of Light Corpuscular Theory of Light
Isaac Newton Christian HUYGENS
WAVE THEORY OF LIGHT . Christiaan Huygens (1629-1695) worked out a mathematical wave theory of light in 1678, and published it in his Treatise on light in 1690. He proposed that light was emitted in all directions as a series of waves in a medium called the Luminiferous ether .
CORPUSCULAR THEORY OF LIGHT ISAAC NEWTON THOMAS YOUNG
HEINRICH HERTZ Who first discovered radio waves that supported the wave theory of light, was also one of the first who discovered the photoelectric effect . Photoelectric Effect:
MAX PLANCK -In 1900, Max Planck proposed his quantum hypothesis to explain blackbody radiation, stating that energy is quantized or discreate and that it is proportional to the frequency produced by the oscillation in a blackbody. 5 years later , Planck’s idea was applied by Albert Einstein in his explanation of the photoelectric effect. Einstein stated that light is made up of energy packets called quanta , which came to be known as the photon --- the particle of light. Einstein correctly explained the photoelectric effect through his quantrum theory of light.
