Introduction The dictionary defines obedience as “complying or willing to comply with orders or requests; submissive to another's will.” Obedient leaders are leaders who respond to the call of service and follow keenly the instructions that come with it. Obedient leaders are leaders who set the example of following the rules and submitting when needed. 12/9/2023 THE OBEDIENCE OF THE LEADER 6

Introduction Cont’d Obedient leaders are servant leaders . The heart of a servant leader is about being able to be obedient enough to help others. Where leaders and leadership really shine is not about having others submit to us, but allowing ourselves to be there for others, listen to their ideas, and really hear them. 12/9/2023 THE OBEDIENCE OF THE LEADER 7

More On Obedience The relevance of every information, instruction, or knowledge is seen in its application by obeying or doing it. Obedience is the only sure measure of successful listening. It takes the obedience of men to lead to the fulfilment of God’s prophecies and His intentions on earth (Isaiah 6:8). It takes the obedience of men to lead to the deliverance of men on earth (Exodus 3:6-10, emphasized on verse 10 ). 12/9/2023 THE OBEDIENCE OF THE LEADER 8

More On Obedience Cont’d Obedience to certain instructions from God will come with a great cost or price to pay – selflessness (Genesis 21:1,2). Obedience to certain instructions from God will require risk taking and certain instructions will not make sense in their natural point of view (Genesis 12:1,9,10). God doesn’t demand our understanding; He demands our obedience. Leadership is preceded by followership; To be servant leaders we must first be obedient followers. 12/9/2023 THE OBEDIENCE OF THE LEADER 9

More On Obedience Cont’d Obedience is the enabler of the authority of a servant leader . Jesus Himself chose to be obedient to the Father as a way to model the essence of servanthood. The same Lord who said “all authority is given to me” is the One who, on the eve of His sacrifice on the cross, told the Father, “not my will but yours.”   (Matthew 26:39,42; Philippians 2:5-9). 12/9/2023 THE OBEDIENCE OF THE LEADER 10
