Prophet Nuh Created by: Eman Fawakiri & Banan M. Obeid عليه السلام

P. Nuh (AS)-Among the Earliest Prophets After the passing of Prophet Adam (AS), Allah (S) sent Prophet Idris (AS). His descendants kept straying from his teachings and Allah’s path- they invented idol worshipping- so Allah sent Prophet Nuh (AS). The People of Nuh lived in Naynawah . (Modern day Iraq, Kuwait, Syria, Turkey) They were the first to invent idol worshipping: The 5 main idols were: Wad, Suwa2, Yaghuth , Yaooq , & Nasr

How did this Idol Worshipping Begin? There were 5 righteous men in the city who would remind everyone of the teachings of the Prophets and remind them to stay on the right path. When these righteous men passed away, the people of Naynawah came up with the idea to honor them by making statues of them and placing them in the center of the city. .

For years people would pass by these statues and remember the teachings of the good men. However, as years passed, some started to pass by t he statues and make a wish. Others would make sacrifices in front of the statues and ask them for help. Soon, people started to worship them, and create more and more statues… Idol worshipping had begun!

Prophet Nuh lived for over a thousand years - preaching to his people for 950 years, as outlined in Surah Al-‘ Ankabut : Nuh AS also warned his people of a punishment that awaited them if they did not abandon idol worship. Oh Allah, guide my people

The Response of the People All his warnings fell on deaf ears, and only a handful of weak and poor men took heed of them. He left no stone unturned trying to help his people see the truth, but they belittled and rejected all his efforts. Everytime P.Nuh tried to help them, they placed their fingers in their ears and covered their faces with their clothing and were arrogant towards him.

P. Nuh’s Duaa against his people After 950 years of being mocked, Nuh (AS) realized that his quarrelsome people would only go on to spread corruption in the land. He had been so patient with them, but the thought of their offspring following in their crooked ways of idol worshipping troubled him greatly. For this reason, that Nuh (AS) made duaa to Allah to destroy all the disbelievers on the Earth This was the only way to save humanity. (Note that at this time, there were not many humans on Earth). رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ دَيَّارًا

When Nuh (AS) began building the ark on a hilltop, the disbelievers were amused and mocked him. He was the first man to ever build a ship. His people called him a madman for building something made for water when they lived in the dry desert. T h ey winked at each other and burst into fits of laughter everytime they saw him. Allah ordered and taught P. Nuh how to build an ark Oh so now you’re a carpenter?! Madman !

Once P.Nuh completed the ship, he waited patiently for Allah’s next command. When the command came, he boarded the ark with his family, the believers, and one male and female (pair) of every animal, insect, and bird. This baffled the idol-worshippers even more as they could not make sense of what they were witnessing. One last time, P. Nuh begged his people to get on the ark, but they refused. Even his own wife and son would not get on with him. The storm began! “O my son! Ride with us and be not among the disbelievers.”  “I will get to the mountain; it will save me from the water.”

As the rain continued to pour, the people climbed to the tallest trees and then the mountains in an effort to escape the flood, but the water kept rising. What used to be dry land became a vast ocean. All the disbelievers drowned, including P. Nuh’s son and wife.

When every single disbeliever had perished, Allah ordered the skies and the Earth:   “O Earth! Swallow up your water, and O sky! Withhold your rain.”   The skies immediately cleared and the sun shone brightly on the land. Meanwhile, Nuh’s ark landed safely on Mount Judi, which is in current day Turkey. Prophet Nuh and the believers got off the ark, releasing the rescued animals, birds and insects across the green land.. The believers were grateful to Allah for saving them from the terrible punishment.
