How to tell time 03
How to ask? What time is it? Do you have the time? Have you got the time? However, it needs to be a little bit more polite when you ask a person, maybe a stranger. In order to do that, you can say: Excuse me, could you tell me what time it is, please? Excuse me, could you tell me the time, please? There are many ways
The two different ways The easy way The difficult way In the easy way, we say the numbers as they are. In other words, as we do in Spanish. . 3:25 - It’s three twenty-five. 11:40 – It’s eleven forty. Now this is a very different story! We will see it in more details! B ut here are some examples: 3:25 - It’s twenty-five past three. 11:40 – It’s twenty to noon.
Let’s focus on the most difficult way? 04
Now let’s focus on the minutes First let’s divide the clock in half. And name each part! This is the AFTER OR PAST This is the TO
If we divide again! There are four parts. T hey are QUARTERS! 15 - A quarter AFTER OR PAST 45 - A quarter TO 15 45 00 00 - o’clock 30 30 - A HALF past
How to tell time We say the minutes first and then the hour . PAST TO 11: 55 pm It´s five to twelve . 11: 10 pm It´s ten past eleven. 2: 29 pm It´s twenty nine past two . 6: 38 pm It´s twenty two to seven . 3: 44 pm It´s sixteen to four . 10: 20 am It´s twenty past ten.

What about the rest? The left side The right side Here you ALWAYS have to say how many minutes are missing for the next hour! 3:35 - It’s twenty-five to four. 11:40 – It’s twenty to noon. In the right side, we say the numbers as they are. First the minutes then the hour. 3:25 - It’s twenty-five after three. 11:10 – It’s ten past eleven.
Let’s practice a little? 10:00 am It’s ten o’clock in the morning 03:30 pm It’s half past three in the afternoon 07:20 am It’s twenty after seven in the morning 05:34 pm It’s twenty-six to six in the evening 02:15 am It’s a quarter after two in the morning 01:05 pm It’s five past one in the afternoon 12:20 am It’s twenty after midnight 06:45 pm It’s a quarter to seven in the evening
