About This Presentation
This study included nine tests using the elliptical analogical soil and
one test using sand as listed in Table 1. The analogical soil tests were
arranged with three relative cushion thicknesses h=ðs − aÞ and three
relative column net spacings ðs − aÞ=a, where h is the cushion

This study included nine tests using the elliptical analogical soil and
one test using sand as listed in Table 1. The analogical soil tests were
arranged with three relative cushion thicknesses h=ðs − aÞ and three
relative column net spacings ðs − aÞ=a, where h is the cushion
thickness, s is the column spacing, and a is the column width.
The sand fill test (Test 7-s) had the same geometrical parameters
as the analogical soil test (Test 7) and was carried out for comparison purposes. The sand used in Test 7-s was Sand II as described in
Rui et al. (2016), which had evenly distributed particles ranging
from 1.4 to 2.0 mm in diameter and was compacted to a relative
density of 85%.
