LEARNING OBJECTIVES After completing this module, you will be able to: Understand what is time management and the concepts associated with time management Identify the major obstacles to effective time management Strategies for managing time efficiently and effectively

Time management really means managing yourself. It’s a way to be happier, more effective, and more successful .

TIME CONSUMERS – HOW YOU LOOSE YOUR TIME Gossiping with friends Talking on the phone for long hours Day dreaming Watching television all the time Partying and snacking all day long Excessive use of Social media ( facebook , instagram , snapchat etc.) Excessive use of technology Procrastinating or worrying

TIME MANAGMENT STRATEGIES

1. Prioritize LAW OF PRIORITIES Your ability to set clear and accurate priorities on your time determines the entire quality of your life. To achieve great things, you must always be concentrating on the small number of activities that contribute the greatest value to your life and your work.

2. Goal Setting Make your goals specific and concrete. Set long-term and short-term goals. Set a deadline for your goals. Monitor your goals. Change goals if needed

3. Make a Time Table Making a time table is a great way to plan your day. It’ll be an easier way to schedule your appointments and remember your obligations. It can also help you to study in blocks and devote time to different subjects. Set up a time table and stick it on your study table and ensure you stick to it. Factor in extra time in case an activity takes longer than expected.

4. ELIMINATE DISTRACTIONS Get rid of anything that distracts you. While you are studying or writing, turn off your phone’s ringtones and vibrations and put it in a drawer where you won’t be tempted to answer calls and messages. Allow yourself to check your phone only once per hour

5. Stop Procrastinating Procrastination is a major obstacle that can prevent you from practicing good time management skills. It is the constant pushing aside of tasks that need to be completed and is the arch enemy of all students.

6. Avoid Time wasting Activities Being on the social media for too long Excessive use of technology Excessive Sleeping/partying/outings Excessive chatting on the phone/internet

7. TO DO List Make a ‘to do’ list each day to remind you of what you have to do each day. Prioritize each item on the list, labeling the most important items A, the less important items B, and the nice to do items C. Be sure to start with the A’s so that you complete the most important items first. Go on to your B’s and C’s only if you find you have the time. Things to do :-

8. Learn When to say NO Learn the art of saying NO You can’t do everything Don’t undertake things you can’t complete Remain consistent to your goals

9. Keep a Diary of Day to Day Events Evaluate how you are spending your time. Keep a diary for three days to track tasks. Look for time that could be used more wisely, freeing up time to spend exercising or with family and friends.

10. Rest and Relax Get plenty of exercise and sleep. Improved focus and concentration help increase efficiency, so you can complete tasks in less time.

11. Be Realistic Examine your schedule. Be realistic about what you can accomplish. Don’t try to juggle too many things.

IF YOU LEARN TO RESPECT TIME, TIME WILL RESPECT YOU....
