Natufian 9000-6500 B.c.e . Built houses Domesticated Wolves.

Hassuna Culture 6500-6000 B.c.e . Created metal from rocks: first to smelt copper and lead.

Samarran Culture 6000-5500 B.c.e Created irrigation systems.

Halafian culture 6000-5400 b.c.e . Chiefs controlled trade

Ubaid culture 5900-4300 b.c.e . Improved irrigation systems.

Sumer 4300-2334 b.c.e Religion became more important. First occurance of writing, called: cuneiform.

Empire of akkad 2334-2112 b.c.e . First known empire.

Ur 2112-2004 b.c.e Established regional governors to help the main ruler.

Assyrian empire 1813-1781 b.c.e . Expanded through warfare.

Babylonian empire 1792-1595 Leader, Hammurabi created the first written code of law, called, “Hammurabi’s Code.”

Kingdom of Mitanni 1550-1328 b.c.e . Used the horse to conquer enemies.

The Hittites 1595-1205 b.c.e . Used the three man chariot to defeat all enemies. Dominated the region all the way to Africa.

Second Assyrian empire 1363-1000 b.c.e . Conquered the remaining Mitanni Kingdom, but was not strong.

Neo Assyrian empire 911-627 b.c.e . Reclaimed land lost to The Second Assyrian Empire.

Neo Babylonian empire 627-539 b.c.e . Ruler, Nebuchadnezzar rebuilt Babylon into one of the most important cities of the Ancient World, creating the hanging gardens of Babylon.

Cyrus the great of Persia captures Babylon 539 b.c.e . The Persian Empire’s conquest effectively ended Mesopotamian civilizations.
