The name "Titanic“ originally alluded to its size and power. However, its shipwreck
on its maiden voyage was an echo of the fate of the Titans in Greek mythology.

The Titans appeared for the first time in Hesíodo’s Teogonía ( 7C BC) where he
names and describes the Titans and tells the story of The War of the Titans
which they are famous for nowadays. (verse 617-819).

In the Cosmogony
(creation of the
universe) we can
see how the
universe was
created. Different
natural phenomena
(Day, Night,
Ocean, Sun, etc.)
are personified by
deities and
organized in a
dynastic
genealogy.

The first generation of Titans
The three Cyclopses (Argés,
Brontés and Esteropes),
brothers of the Titans and the
Hecatonchiros, were giants with
only one eye on their forehead,
they were cruel and serious in
nature; but good craftsmen.
They lived high up in the
mountains and had a fire which
was always lit, they forged their
weapons and armour in a huge
volcano.

as the Titans’ brothers and
cyclopses, are the other
supernatural beings who
were giants with 100 arms.
They had a force so

able to throw mountains
like rocks and shake the
planet.

Explanation of the
myth
The Titans are giants
who represent the
forces of nature and the
elements without
restriction.
Contrastingly the
Olympic Gods
represent more refined
Gods which the more
primitive Gods give
into.

With this mythological reference how could the Titanic not have a grand and dramatic ending? The
transatlantic passenger´s agonizing struggle took place throughout a long and dark night.
It would seem that the boat´s destiny had already been written by Hesodio 2,700 years before the disaster
took place.

Since the fateful night of it´s shipwreck, the Titanic has
been a mausoleum of human pride: an example of
divine punishment
"You will lie on the seabed, where nobody can
admire your beautiful
shell, your huge dimensions, your feats
of engineering, your luxurious spaces..."
Yes, the gods imposed on the RMS TITANIC the punishment of the
Titans:
