SEWING -is the craft of fastening or attaching objects using stitches made with a needle and thread.
LARGE SEWING MATERIALS Sewing Machine -machine used to stitch fabric and other materials with thread.Compared to sewing with the hand,a sewing does work faster and more consistently.
Iron and Ironing Board -use to eliminate creases and to flatten the fabric you are working on.
meter stick -a measuring tool necessary for drawing long and straight lines.
MEASURING MATERIALS tape measure -used to measure fabric,as well as person's dimensions. -is ideal for measuring around the curves of a body which a ruler or meter stick can not do.
ruler -used to measure and draw straight lines on fabrics
CUTTING MATERIALS scissors -this is a handled cutting tool with two blades attached to two handles of the same size with the same hole diameter for the fingers.
shears -like scissors, shears have two blades attached to handles. -However the shape and size o the two blades differ,as well as the shape and size of the two handles. -designed for better grip -for cutting thicker materials
pinking shears -designed to make zigzag pattern on the edge of the materials.
SEWING MATERIALS thread -primary tool in sewing -material that binds or fastens fabrics together
needles -These have different sizes. -Smaller needles are used for very thin and light fabric while larger needles are for thick fabrics. -used to drive thread into the fabric.
thimble -used to protect the finger from needles -you can easilly push a needle into a fabric using the thimble without hurting yourself.
Group Activity Materials:pentel pen/paper or coupon

Write on the line the name of the sewing material described in each item. _____1.This is used for binding or fastening fabrics together. _____2.These have two blades that differ in shape and size,as well as two handles that also differ in size and shape. _____3.This is used to protect finger from needles.
_____4.This machine does work faster and more consistently. _____5.This cutting tool has serrated cutting blades designed to make a zigzag pattern.
MAKING A PROJECT PLAN
PLAN -is a blueprint of any project or undertaking -this will guide you in accomplishing your goal.
Parts of a Project Plan 1 .Name of a Project -found at the top part of the plan -name of the project should be short and concise but must still be able to give the reader an idea Examples: Plan for Making an Apron Project for Creating Pillowcases Making Pot Holders
2.Design/Sketch -found next to or below the name or the title of the project. -serves as guide for the person to know how the final outcome of the product should look like
3.Objectives -states the goals that you aim to achieve -goals should be specific and realistic -ensure that you do not go beyond the expected outcome examples 1.correctly follow the steps in makig apron 2.use appropriate tools and materials for sewing an apron 3.create presentable apron
4.Bill of Materials -list of all the needed supplies -written in tabular format -item/quantity/amount per item/total cost item quantity unit cost total cost fabric(printed) 2 meters P60 P120 thread(white) 1 spool P30 P30 Total Cost P150
5.Tools Needed -list of tools or materials that you already have Example: shears thimble iron needles
6.Procedure -part where you list all the instructions you must follow in order to accomplish your project. -witten step-by-step Example: 1.Wash the fabric gently. 2.Iron the fabric. 3.Lay fabric flat on the table with the working side up. 4........ 5........

DRAFTING PATTERNS
DRAFTING graphical representation of structures, and their component parts a technical design to the craftsman or worker who makes the product.
pattern paper -usually used in drafting for a more complicated project like sewing blouse,a pair of pants,or a dress. -for simple project like placemat,or dish cloth, a newspaper or manila paper will serve the purpose
commercial pattern -standardized pattern -ready made and can be bought
MAKING PATTERNS 1.Draw a sketch of the product you want to make. 2.Scale the design of the product on the pattern paper with the correct size and shape. 3.Cut the pattern pieces according to the actual size and shape. 4.Take note of the design of the cloth before laying the pattern flat on the table.
5.When laid on the pattern paper, trace with a tracing chalk or a pencil, just so you get the actual size and shape.Use pins to prevent the cloth from moving while tracing. 6.Measure and mark the needed allowance by means of a gauge for ease in measuring and marking.
Safety Precaution to Remember Focus on what you are doing. Use the tools you are using correctly with confidence. Keep them after use in a safe place.
