T heory : Elixirs are clear, flavored , sweetened hydroalcoholic liquid preparations for administration . The % of alcohol varies from 4 to 40 % . In this elixirs propylene glycol , ethanol , and glycerol these are all acts as a vehichle and co-solvent to increase the solubility of poorly solubleb ingredients . Chloroform spirit acts as a preservative. Invert syrup acts as a sweetening agent . Anthelmintic is the term used to describe a drug used to treat infections of animals with parasitic worms.
I n developing countries they pose a large threat infections of animals with parasitic worms. In developing countries they pose a large threat to public health and leadng to malnutrition ,anaemia, eosinophilia (a higher than normal level of white blood cell ) , and pneumonia . This includes both flat worms , e.g. flukes (tremstodes) and tapeworms (cestodes) as well as round worms (nematodes).
The parasites are of huge importance for human tropical medicine and for veterinary medicine. Piperazine citrate is used as a second-line treatment for treating round worm infections caused by Ascaris citrate is used as a second line treatment for treating round worm infections caused by Ascaris lumbricoides and pinworm infections caused by Enterobius vermicularis.It paralyses the worm which is then expelled by digestive tract.Although it is highly active against Ascaris and Enterobius , It is not commonly used because of its repeated doses while other anthelmintics offer single dose treatment.
Procedure : To dissolve Piperazine Citrate in purified water and then add orange oil , glycerin , syrup and chloroform spirit is mixed. Add to make sufficient volume to produce 20 ml. Dose : 15 to 30 ml Category : Anthelmintic Storage : Stored in a well closed container at a temperature not exceeding 25 degree centrigrade.
