Tool-Holding Devices For Milling
Machine
Tool-Holding Devices
A tool holding device consisting of adjustable jaws that center a
workpiece in a lathe or center a tool in a drill. clamp, clinch. a device
(generally used by carpenters) that holds things firmly together. holder.
a holding device.
Drill Chucks

Tapping head
Arbor
Drill Chucks
Most common devices used for holding straight-shank cutting tools
Most contain three jaws that move simultaneously when outer sleeve
turned
Hold straight shank of cutting tool securely
Two common types
I.Key
II.Keyless
Key-type
Three jaws move simultaneously when outer sleeve
turned
Tighten with key
Different size keys for different size chucks
Keyless
Chuck loosened or tightened by hand without
key
Precision keyless
Holds smaller drills accurately
Drill Sleeves
Used to adapt drill shank to machine spindle
if taper on tool is smaller than taper in spindle
Drill Socket
Used when hole in spindle of drill press too small for
taper shank of drill
Used often as extension sockets
Collet
is a subtype of chuck which is device used to
hold a work piece or a cutting tool in the
spindle of a milling machine.
Tapping head
A self reversing tapping mechanism that feeds
into the tapped hole under spring resistance
thus allowing the inward feed to be governed by
the pitch of the thread being tapped. A reversing
mechanism actuates at the bottom of the hole
thus removing the tap like unscrewing a bolt.
Arbor
The Arbor hole of the An arbor is a cutter
holding device with a taper shank to fit the
spindle taper machine: the short or long shaft
end is used to mount and drive one or more
cutters. having holes that fit on to the arbor.
Arbor is used on Horizontal Milling Machine.
