Why Set SMART Objectives? Clarifies focus and expectations. Guides planning and prioritization. Provides a clear basis for evaluation. Ensures alignment with DepEd goals and PPST standards. “What gets measured, gets improved.” – Peter Drucker

Understanding SMART

Connection to KRAs, Objectives, and Indicators Objectives operationalize KRAs. Indicators describe evidence of success. COT Rubrics measure quality of practice.

Role of the Classroom Observation Tool (COT) Evaluates observable classroom practices. Provides evidence for PMES rating. Aligns with PPST indicators. Contains 9 indicators for beginning proficient teachers and five performance levels: (6) Outstanding, (5) Very Satisfactory, (4) Satisfactory, (3) Unsatisfactory and (2) Poor.

Role of the Classroom Observation Tool (COT) Evaluates observable classroom practices. Provides evidence for PMES rating. Aligns with PPST indicators. Contains 9 indicators for highly proficient teachers and five performance levels: (8) Outstanding, (7) Very Satisfactory, (6) Satisfactory, (5) Unsatisfactory and (4) Poor.

Linking SMART Objectives with COT Results Example: Objective : Applied knowledge of content within and across curriculum teaching areas (PPST 1.1.2) SMART Version : By the end of the 4th quarter, displays extensive knowledge of content and addresses content accurately and its focus is congruent with the big ideas and/or structure of the teaching area. Indicator of Success : COT score for Indicator 1 improves from 5 to 6 for TI-TIII. COT score for Indicator 1 improves from 7 to 8 for MTI-MTII. Learners demonstrate deeper understanding and meaningful connections across curriculum.
