Islamabad Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan. Its population is above one million. It is the 9 th populous city of Pakistan. The major part of the city was built during 1960s. It was carefully planned with large gardens and parks. The government has its main offices in Islamabad. The Pakistan Monument , “Four Petals” represents the four provinces of Pakistan.
Karachi Karachi is the largest city of Pakistan. It is the provincial capital of Sindh. In its early years, it was a fishing centre and gradually it turned into an important centre for trade and industry. Karachi has two busy harbors and many beaches. Along with the ancient buildings, like Mohatta Palace and Frere Hall, the city has modern buildings and monuments such as white marble mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhmad Ali Jinnah.
Lahore Lahore is the second largest city of Pakistan. It is also the capital city of Punjab. This is a very old city and has a beautiful fort called “Shahi Qila” which was built by Mughal Emperor, Akbar, in 1566. Lahore has many gardens, due to which this city is also known as the City of Gardens. The names of the few parks are Bagh-e-Jinnah, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Huzuri Bagh. Badshahi Mosque, which was built by Aurangzeb, in 1674, is also in Lahore.
Peshawar Peshawar is the capital city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It has a historical importance too. In the past, people used to cross the mountains through the Khyber Pass to enter Pakistan. Peshawar is also known for its markets where one can buy the best fabrics and other household things.
Quetta Quetta is the capital city of Balochistan. The city is also known as the “Fruit Bowl” of Pakistan. Farmers grow almonds, apricots and all kinds of fruits here. Nomads, who move from place to place with their herds, visit Quetta in spring and autumn to buy and sell goods. A mountain train journey the Bolan Pass near Quetta goes through 21 tunnels.
