3. SURVEYING Before discussing total station lets discuss its field where it is used in field of surveying. Surveying together with engineering drawing is considered as base of engineering field. It is basically a process through which we locate position of points for construction purpose. We use different instruments such as total station in surveying process.

4. TOTAL STATION Total station is basically improved version of theodolite. It uses EDM[ electro distance method] to calculate angles both horizontal and vertical. And then uses trigonometry to find length and other calculations. Data saved could be further used in laptop and computers.

5. ITS ADVANTAGES Many instruments have been replaced with the help of total station. For example chains which were so heavy and tired some to be used. An engineer could work miles away with the help of this technology. But cost is its another disadvantage which has hindered its use.
