What is Simple sentence: যে Sentence এ একটি মাত্র Subject এবং একটি মাত্র finite verb ( সমাপিকা ক্রিয়া) থাকে, তাকে Simple sentence বলে । I read a book. Coming home, he began to work . Because of his illness, he cannot go to school . By working hard , you can succeed in life . He is too weak to walk. She worked hard to shine in life. There are some people acting like the wise.
What is Complex sentence যে Sentence এ একটি মাত্র principal clause এবং এক বা একাধিক subordinate clause থাকে, তাকে Complex sentence বলে। Complex sentence এ Subordinate clause টি সাধারণত subordinating conjunctions ( though, although, wh words (which, what, when, who, whom), unless , since, if, as, because, that, so that) ইত্যাদি দ্বারা শুরু হয় । We know that he is honest . He is so poor that he cannot buy a car . When he came , he began to work. অর্থা ৎ যে Sentence এ ১টা subordinating conjunction এবং ২টা finite verb থাকে , সেটাই Complex sentence
What is Compound sentence যে sentence এ দুই বা ততোধিক Principal clause থাকে এবং clause গুলো coordinating conjunctions (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So) দ্বারা যুক্ত থাকে, তাকে Compound sentence বলে। coordinating conjunctions গুলো ‘ FANBOYS ’ শব্দ দ্বারা মনে রাখা সহজ। He is poor but (he is ) honest . He is very poor and ( he) cannot buy a car . Read attentively or you cannot pass. অর্থা ৎ যে Sentence এ ১ ট া coordinating conjunction এবং ২টা finite verb থাকে, সেটাই Compound sentence
Simple-Complex-Compound In spite of/ Despite ( সত্ত্বেও ) Though / Although ( যদিও ) but ( কিন্তু ) Simple: In spite of her being black, she is beautiful . Complex: Though she is black, she is beautiful. Compound : She is black but (she is ) beautiful . Simple: In spite of being old, he carried a load of two baskets. Complex: Though he was old, he carried a load of two baskets. Compound : He was old but (he) carried a load of two baskets.
Simple-Complex-Compound 2. to/in order to (- তে , জন্যে ) s o that/in order that ( যাতে ) and/and so( এবং ) Simple: He worked hard to prosper in life . Complex: He worked hard so that he could prosper in life. Compound : He wanted to prosper in life and so he worked hard . Or, He worked hard and wanted to prosper in life. He worked hard and (he) could prosper in life . ( এটি না করাই ভালো ) Simple : He works hard to prosper in life . Complex : He works hard so that he can prosper in life . Compound : He works hard and (he) wants to prosper in life.
Simple-Complex-Compound 3. too ... t o ( এতই যে – পারে না ) so ... that ( এতই যে – পারে না ) very ... and ( খুব -- এবং ) Simple: He is too weak to walk . Complex : He is so weak that he cannot walk. Compound : He is very weak, and he cannot walk. Simple: He was too weak to walk. Complex: He was so weak that he could not walk. Compound: He was very weak, and he could not walk.
Simple-Complex-Compound 4 . Because of ( কারণে ) Since , As, Because ( যেহেতু / কারণ ) and ( এবং ) Simple: Because of being industrious, she succeeded in life . Complex : As she was industrious, she succeeded in life. Compound : She was industrious and succeeded in life. Simple: Because of having a lot of money, he has bought a car. Complex: Since he has a lot of money, he has bought a car. Compound : He has a lot of money and bought a car .
Simple-Complex-Compound 5 . V+ing /At the time/age of Since/As ( যেহেতু ), When ( যখন ) and ( এবং ) Simple: Working hard, she succeeded in life. Complex: As/Since she worked hard, she succeeded in life. Compound: She worked hard and succeeded in life . Subject দুটি ভিন্ন হলেও নিয়ম একই থাকবে : Simple: The weather being bad, we did not go outside . Complex : Since the weather was bad, we did not go outside. Compound : The weather was bad, and (so) we did not go outside .
Simple-Complex-Compound 5. V+ing /At the time/age of Since/As ( যেহেতু ), When ( যখন ) and ( এবং ) Simple: Seeing me, she cried loudly. Complex: When she saw me, she cried loudly. Compound : She saw me and cried loudly. Simple: At the age of thirteen, I was promoted to class 8 . Complex : When I was thirteen, I was promoted to class 8. Compound : I was thirteen and promoted to class 8.
Simple-Complex-Compound 6 . By + gerund ( কিছু করার দ্বারা ) If ( যদি ) and Simple: By reading attentively, you will pass . Complex : If you read attentively, you will pass. Compound : Read attentively and you will pass . Simple: By reading more, you learn more. Complex: If you read more, By reading more, you learn more. Compound : Y ou Read more and you learn more.
Simple-Complex-Compound 7. Without + gerund ( কিছু করা ছাড়া ) Unless/If–not ( যদি না ) or/otherwise ( অথবা ) Simple: Without reading attentively, you will/can fail in the exam . Complex : Unless you read attentively, you will/can fail in the exam. Compound : Read attentively or you will /can fail in the exam. Simple: Without doing, you will die. Complex: If you don’t do, you will die. Compound : Do or die.
Simple-Complex-Compound 9. Simple tense + Who / which/ when/ where/ that + and Simple: I saw a flying bird . Complex: I saw a bird which (that) was flying. Compound : I saw a bird and it was flying . Simple: Health is wealth. Complex: It is health which (that) is wealth. Compound: It is health and it is wealth.
Simple-Complex-Compound Test: 1. I saw a standing man. (Complex) Ans. I saw a man who was standing. 2. He is poor and cannot buy a car. (simple) Ans. Because of his being poor, he cannot buy a car. 3. Though he is poor, he is honest. (simple) Ans. Despite his poverty , he is honest. 4. I love you. (complex) Ans. It is I who love you .
Change the sentences according to directions. DB’20 1. Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Tarin . (compound) A. Once upon a time, there was a little girl and her named was Tarin . 2. Though she was a nice little girl, she was not an ordinary child . (Simple) A. In spite of being a nice little girl, she was not an ordinary child . 3. She passed her time in reading and writing. (Interrogative) A. Didn’t she pass her time in reading and writing ? 4. Her parents liked her very much. (Negative) A. Her parents did not dislike her at all. 5. Everyone praised her. (Passive) A. She was one of the most intelligent girls in the school. (Positive) A. Very few girls in the school were as intelligent as she. 10. She worked hard to shine in life. A.
