What is transformational leadership ? Transformational Leadership is a leadership style in which the leader motivate, inspire and encourage the team member to create change in their working abilities that will help in grow and shape the future success of company and get their goals. This only can be accomplished by setting an example at executive level by building strong corporate culture and independence at the workplace.

Transactional leaders motivates and inspire their workforce by trusting the trained employees and giving them right to take decisions in their area of working. It is new way that allows employees to create a room and find new solutions to solve different problems.

Transformational Leadership Characteristics These are the signs of the transactional leaders that keep them apart from the other leadership styles. A transformational leader is someone who: Encourages the motivation and positive development of followers. Exemplifies moral standards within the organization and encourages the same of others. Fosters an ethical work environment with clear values, priorities and standards.

Transformational Leadership Characteristics Builds company culture by encouraging employees to move from an attitude of self-interest to a mindset where they are working for the common good. Holds an emphasis on authenticity, cooperation and open communication. Provides coaching and mentoring but allowing employees to make decisions and take ownership of tasks.

Components of Transactional Leadership

1. Individualized Consideration Individualized Consideration is the extent to which a leader is a mentor, coach or guide to the follower and attends to each of their needs. When a leader shows individualized consideration they also get aware of the unique talent of each worker that he brings to the workplace and helps them to develop and extend those skills. This leads the follower to aspire to develop further and they show intrinsic motivation when performing their work .

2. Inspirational Motivation Inspirational Motivation is the degree to which a leader articulates an appealing vision that inspires and motivates others to perform beyond expectations. Inspirational motivational using leaders have high expectations from their followers. They are hopeful about follower’s ability to meet their goals and by showing importance to all duties and responsibility, they always provide meanings to their followers.

3. Idealized Influence Transformational leaders who show Idealized Influence by engaging themselves in high standard of ethical behavior, are the role model for their followers. These leaders usually have very high standards of moral and ethical conduct and can be considered to doing the right thing .

4. Intellectual Stimulation Intellectual Stimulation is the extent to which transformational leaders challenge assumptions, take risks and solicit followers’ ideas. They identify their followers by their creativity and innovation. The leaders support and collaborates with the followers when they try new approaches to meet the goals of the organization .

Advantages and Disadvantages of Transformational Leadership Transformational leadership is good for those organizations who wants to change. But the transactional leadership is not good for the organizations that have no structure.
