Common Transformer Types Abbott Technologies PRESENTS
About Transformers:- Electrical transformers help make modern life possible, but many people are unsure of how they work and what they do. Everything from laptop chargers to industrial machines need transformers in their electrical system, and most modern technology would cease to exist without these devices.
Electrical Transformers Unique and share a common winding. Winding meets at various terminals to produce a similar voltage . Adaptable autotransformer is another unique option with a sliding brush. Allows the transformer to quickly alter the turns of the wire.
Auto-transformers Unique and share a common winding. Winding meets at various terminals to produce a similar voltage . Adaptable autotransformer is another unique option with a sliding brush. Allows the transformer to quickly alter the turns of the wire.
Polyphase Transformers Used where huge amounts of energy must be transferred. Have three windings with three separate currents Referred to as three-phase transformer. At the same frequency. Output energy comes in alternating phases. Allows transformer to provide a consistent power flow. Also referred as multi phase transformers.
Leakage Transformers Allows some of the energy to leak away from the windings. Current must be very low to avoid serious damage from an overload. Overload can be used for practical purposes such as arc welding etc.
Power Transformers Alters the voltage of electricity moving to one or more circuit. When used on a solid-state circuit system, referred as a rectifier transformer.
Isolation Transformers Unique transformers having wiring ratio 1:1. Voltage moving between the two wires is nearly identical. Isolates the grounded conductor of primary power line from all other components.
Potential Transformers Most delicate and accurate transformer. Lower the voltage by a small and extremely accurate amount. Common transformation ratios are 10:1, 20:1, and 40:1. These are shell type transformers.
Instrument Transformers Only placed inside devices such as voltmeters. Also referred as accurate ratio transformers. Only handles a small amount of power (load).
