the disease a
pandemic on

STAGES IN THE
DISEASE SPREAD

Case growth and stretched health
system

local transmission

HERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS TO
PONDER
•Will SON be in this situation
for weeks or months?
•What will return to work really
look like in SON?
•How can SON ensure safe
return to work without
endangering the workforce?
•How can SON increase its
capacity and speed to
respond effectively to
today’s issues?
•Will SON Flip
the switch or
turn the
valve?

WHAT ARE THE
NEW OPERATING
ENVIRONMENT
FOR
BUSINESSES AND SON
IN PARTICULAR?
called the 5R’s which are-
resolve, resilience, return,
reimagine and reform.
SON need to think across 5
horizons
SON's environment is related to the socio-economic
structures ( housing standards, transportation, food
security, job losses) and the health system
infrastructure ( test, trace, isolate and treat)

5R’S
Resolve- to address the
immediate challenges
that the disease poses
to your work force.
How will factory
inspections, audits be
carried out in SON ?
Resilient- requires speed
and discipline in ensuring
safe and sustainable
operations.
SON must Imbibe and
deploy automation
Return- detailed plan to
scale as quickly and as
safely as you
can.
.SON might need to
Consider remote
Inspections and Audits
Reimagine- the new
normal for your work
flow processes and
how you can
reinvent.
SON must Make use
of IT infrastructurein
delivering its
services. Reform- regulatory, legal
frameworks to keep the
business
competitive.
SON mifght Review
timelines for service
delivery

TRANSITIONING
THE
WORKFORCE IN
SON WILL
REQUIRE
COMPLIANCE
THE ISSUE OF:
General
guidelines
SON must Follow
government
return to work
guidelines based
on local context.
SON should
Maintain
remote work
while increasing
flexibility,
productivity,
connectivity and
health.
SON staff will
Return to work
with increased
flexibility by
defining return to
work plans,
retraining staff to
more flexible skill
sets

SON SHOULD
ADOPT THE
OODA
LOOP
The OODA loop was
Developed by John
Boyd to revolutionize
US military thinking
after the Vietnam war.
OODA Emphasizes the
need to make appropriate
decisions faster than the
rate at which the
environment evolves.

TRANSITIONING
THE
WORKFORCE
WITH REGARDS
GENERAL
GUIDELINES
General guidelines
-Return to work would
be executed with care
in compliance the
Federal goverment
guidelines on work
resumption.
The guidelines -
Segment employees
into relevant
categories-onsite/
offsite, high risk/low
risk
-The guidelines are to
Create an atmosphere
of trust and support.
Especially psychosocial
support
The guidelines ensure
management -Have
open communication
with staff.

TRANSITIONING THE WORKFORCE

Non- Work From Home
(WFH) Employees might feel
-Perceived unfairness
-safety risk due to increased
exposure (commute, customers,
other employees)
-Perceived value if safety is not
prioritized
-Fear of illness, fear of being
isolated

WFH Employees on the other hand
might have
-Blurred boundary between
work and life.
-Anxiety as the epidemic
unfolds.
-Telecommuting not suitable
for some work functions

PROVIDE:
Relocation/ isolated accommodation for
workers.

SON STAFF
PERSONAL
INTERVENTIONS
MEASURES
INCLUDES
General guidelines

Never leave your house
without a face covering. You
could be punished for that!

Always have a sanitizer
handy.Use the one nearest to
you

Avoid touching your nose,
mouth and eyes once you are
out of your home.
•Maintain physical
distancing at the bus park.

ENROUTE
TO
WORKSON
STAFF

cars, especially if you are in the car with
someone who does not live in your
household.
Avoid
Use smaller cars for transportation with a
maximum of three people and the
windows wound down
Use
While using public transportation, choose
a window seat and turn your face
outwards the window while still wearing
your face covering.
Choose
If you can, insist the bus does not carry
more than 60% of its capacity.
Insist
Avoid touching seats and railings in
buses. If that happens unintentionally,
sanitize your hands immediately and
again on leaving the bus.
Avoid

AT WORK
SON STAFF MUST
ENSURE
•If you sign in, use your own
pen. If possible, advise HR to
stand down on signing in
procedures.
•If you clock in, and/or use an
elevator to your floor, touch
buttons with a tissue paper
and discard immediately.
Maintain physical distance
and encourage people not to
speak inside the elevator.
•It would be preferable to use
the stairs to your floor if you
can. Avoid touching the stair-
case rails while doing so.

WHILE AT
WORK
•Look through your work
processes, note the processes that
put you at risk and devise
alternative means to perform such
functions.
•Adopt no contact greeting-wave,
nod, bow
•Use natural ventilation as much as
possible
•Sanitize your desk, chair and
surroundings every morning.
•Wear face covering consistently
and correctly and encourage
others to do so especially if you
share the office with others.
•Keep physical distance between
work-stations and even while
speaking to colleagues

WHILE STILL
AT WORK
•Encourage remote
communication even while in the
office. Go paperless as much as
possible.
•Defer in person meetings as
much as possible.
•If your office receives
customers/visitors, pre-arrange
their appointments so that your
waiting area does not get
crowded.
•Avoid eating in Lunch rooms,
except you can maintain physical
distancing. It would be preferable
to bring your food and water
from home and eat at your desk.

AT WORK
SON STAFF
MUST
•Avoid using office dispensers and
disposable cups. If you must take
water from the office dispenser,
touch the dispenser with tissue
paper and discard immediately. Use
your cup preferably.
•Avoid making up in the office
bathroom. Make up at home, in
your car or at your desk after
cleaning the desk
•Advocate for the putting up of
IEC(Information,
Education&communication)
materials on COVID-19 at vantage
positions in the work-place. These
should stress physical distancing,
hand and respiratory hygiene,
wearing of face coverings.

AGAIN WHILE
STILL AT WORK,
STAFF MUST
•Not touch taps.No touch office
bathrooms are preferable
(sensor flushers, taps and
doors). If your office does not
meet this standard, install
elbow taps at the very least.
•Use the bathroom when
absolutely necessary and
perform hand hygiene
immediately. This is not the
time for “office small talk” in
office bathrooms.
•Leave the office early
especially if you use public
transportation. Leaving early
means getting to the bus-stop
early and getting home safely.
