Geometric translations ( Translation ) Math Department
Objectives : At the end of this lesson students will be able to : 1) Recognize the geometric transformations. 2) Recognize the meaning of translation . 3) Find the image of each point by translation .
Geometric transformation : change the position of a figure that means it makes the figure moving from one place to another There are three basic geometric transformations Reflection Translation Rotation
Is geometric translation which slide a shape from place to another place Translation : Image = Point + Translation Translation = Image − Point Point = Image – Translation
The image of A ( -4 , 3 ) is A´ ( -4 + 2 , 3 – 3 ) Find the image of AB where A( -4 , 3 ) , B( 2 , 0 ) By translation ( X, y ) ( X + 2 , y – 3 ) A B´ A´ A ´ = ( -2 , 0 ) The image of B ( 2 , 0 ) is B´ ( 2+ 2 , 0 – 3 ) B ´ = ( 4 , -3 ) B
On a square latice draw the rectangle A ( 4 , 3 ) ,B( 4 , 1 ) , c( 1 , 1 ) and D( 1 , 3 ) then find its image by the translation ( -2 , -3) A B C The image by translation ( - 2 , - 3 ) The point A ´ = ( 2 , 0 ) A( 4 , 3 ) B ´ = ( 2 , - 2 ) B( 4 , 1 ) C´ = ( -1 , - 2 ) C( 1 , 1 ) D´ = ( -1 ,0 ) D( 1 , 3 ) D D´ C´ B´ A´
