TRANSMISSION OF HEAT DAILY LIFE EXAMPLES M. Reza Iskandar Salim 7 Kazakhstan

What is HEAT? Heat is a very useful form of thermal energy transfer

Movement of Heat Heat flows from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature Three methods of heat movement are: Conduction Convection Radiation

What is CONDUCTION? Conduction is the process of heat transfer through a medium or material without any movement of the medium or material

Examples of Conduction The heat from a hot coffee makes the cup itself hot A metal spoon becomes hot from the boiling water inside the cup

Examples of Conduction When ironing a s h irt , the iron is hot and the heat is transferred to the s h irt . An ice cube will melt if you hold it in your hand. The heat is being conducted from hand into the ice cube.

What is CONVECTION? Convection is the transfer of heat from one place to another by the movement of fluids. A fluid with a given density rises within a fluid of greater density and sinks within in a fluid of smaller density

Examples of Convections Boiling water - The heat passes from the burner into the pot, heating the water at the bottom. Then, this hot water rises and cooler water moves down to replace it, causing a circular motion.

Examples of Convections Hot air balloon - A heater inside the balloon heats the air and so the air moves upward. This causes the balloon to rise because the hot air gets trapped inside. When the pilot want to descend, he releases some of the hot air and cool air takes it place, causing the balloon to lower.

What is RADIATION? Radiation is the transfer of heat, in the form of waves, from one place to another without a medium

Examples of Radiation A campfire's heat Microwaves

Examples of Radiation Light from the sun Infrared light
