What is a Trumpet Interchange ? A Trumpet interchange is a road junction that typically uses grade separation, and one or more looped ramps, to permit traffic on at least one highway to pass through the junction without directly crossing any other traffic stream. About Trumpet Interchange Trumpet interchanges have been used where one highway terminates at another highway. These involve at least one loop ramp connecting traffic either entering or leaving the terminating expressway with the far lanes of the continuous highway.

Objective The primary purpose of an interchange is to reduce conflicts caused by vehicle crossings and minimize conflicting left-turn movements. Provide interchanges on all Interstate highways and freeways, and at other locations where traffic cannot be controlled efficiently by intersections at grade. To ensure non-stop vehicle flow. To reduce accidents.

SOME PHOTOS

ADVANTAGE Low construction cost comparable to other interchanges. Less of an eyesore for local residents. weaving is also eliminated. Reduce accidents. Comfortable for road users. No need traffic signal lights.

DISADVANTAGE Require a lot of land to construct. The loop ramps are not as efficient as flyover/under ramps in terms of traffic flow.

Limitations in Bangladesh There is not enough land to built a trumpet in capital city of Bangladesh though Dhaka is the most traffic conflicted area. Right side trumpet is less useful because all our roads are left side drive road. Mini loop has less radius of curve but greater slope what is harder to use as a entrance and causes low speed.

CONCLUTION Traffic intersections are problem spots on any highway, which contribute to a large share of accidents. For safe operation, these locations should be kept under some level of control depending upon the traffic quantity and behavior. Based on this, intersections and interchanges are constructed.
