3. Why columns fail: We know, Columns are made up of two major materials concrete and steel. Architect do calculate total stress caused by dead load and live load on the entire building to design its internal components (Beam, Column, Slab etc.). So, if the applied stress exceeds the allowable stress then the structure start to fail.
