Types of muscle contraction

1. TYPES OF MUSCLE CONTRACTION Dr. darshan Parmar ( mpt -neuro)

2. ISOTONIC CONTRACTION Muscle contraction is said to be isotonic when the tension on the muscle remains constant throughout, though the length changes . Iso = same , Tonic= strength or tension Work done = force × distance

3. CONCENTRIC CONTRACTION The muscles contracts isotonically in shortening to produce movement. The attachment of the muscle are drawn closer together and the movement is in the direction of muscle of pull.

4. ECCENTRIC CONTRACTION The muscle contracts isotonically in lengthening . The muscle attachments are drawn apart as it works to oppose the action of force which is greater than that of its own contraction. Work done is negative . Movement is in the direction of opposing force i.e. direction opposite to muscle pull.

5. ISOMETRIC CONTRACTION Muscle contraction is said to be isometric when the length of the muscle remains constant . Iso= same , Metric= length Work done =
