TYPES OF PORTAL HYPERTENSION
PRE HEPATIC- Due to blockage of the
portal vein before the liver (e.g. congenital
portal veinous abnormalities, neonatal
sepsis.)
INTRA HEPATIC- Due to distortion of the
liver architecture, which can be pre
sinusoidal (e.g. schistosomiasis) , sinusoidal
(e.g. cirrhosis)or post sinusoidal (e.g. veno-
occlusive disease)
POST HEPATIC- Due to venous blockage
outside the liver (e.g. Budd Chiari
syndrome, Constrictive pericarditis
