TERMINOLOGIES OF RETAILING & RETAILER The word “Retailing” is of French origin which means ‘to cut again’. It is exactly so and meaningful that retail trade is one that cut off smaller portions from larger lump of goods. The person who facilitate the Retailing activities is known as Retailer. Here we are going to discuss about the types of retailing .

I. ITINERANT RETAILER

A. Hawkers & Pedlars - Hawkers – retailers who carry goods on wheels. Pedlars – retailers who carry good on head & shoulder or non- vehicle

B. Cheap jacks - Retailers – sells cheap price goods – No permanent place – Have business only where they is demand.

C. Street Traders - Retailers who sell goods at foot path and most populated areas.

D. Market Traders - Retailers who Sells goods at open place.

II. FIXED SHOP RETAILERS

A. Street Stall Holders - Retailers who have permanent stores.

B. Second-hand Goods Dealer - Retailer – who sells the used goods .

C. Speciality Shops - Retailer who sells the special goods, say , any particular type or brand of goods.

D. General Shop - Shop for day-to-day needs

III. SMALL SCALE RETAILERS

A. Independent Stores - In this type of stores – Owners will decide the price, work duration etc.

B. Automatic Vending - Retailing with the help of automated machines.

C. Discount House - Retailer buy directly from manufacturer in bulk and sell the same at discount to the ultimate consumer.

IV. LARGE SCALE SHOPS

A. Departmental Stores - In same shop – different departments – for different verities of goods.

B. Chain Stores - Having various branches across the country.

C. Super Market - Self help System of buying – rack – Trolley.

D. Hyper Market - It require huge space – so it will be established out side the city.

V. OTHER TYPES OF RETAILING

A. Mail O rder Shops - VPP – Value Payable Post

B. Co-operative Society - Established by the group of customers for personal benefits.

C. Hire Purchase & Instalment Selling
