Shear Force: Shear force at any cross section of the beam is the algebraic sum of all vertical forces on the beam, acting on the right or left side of the section. Sign Conventions: + - + - Right Side Left Side

Bending Moment: Bending moment at any cross section of the beam , is the algebraic sum of the all moments of all the forces action on the right or left side of section. Sign Conventions: - - + + Right Side Left Side

Draw SFD & BMD for given Beam Calculate support reactions Σ Fy = 0 R A + R B = 15 + 10 = 25 Σ M = 0 Taking Moment @ A 15X 1.5 + 10 X 3.5 = R B X 5 R B = 11.5kN R A = 13.5 kN Shear Force Calculations SF at B R = kN SF at B L = -11.5 kN SF at D R = -11.5 kN SF at D L = -11.5 + 10 = -1.5 kN SF at C R = -11.5 + 10 = -1.5 kN SF at C L = -11.5 +10 + 15 = 13.5 kN SF at A R = -11.5 +10 + 15 = 13.5 kN SF at A L = kN + - Bending Moment Calculations BM at A & B = kNm ……… (SS ends) BM at C =13.5 X 1.5 = 20.25 kNm BM at D = 11.5 X 1.5 = 17.25 kNm - - + +
