SELF AND MUTUAL INDUCTIONS SELF INDUCTIONS : Its an emf induced across the coil due to a time varying flux produced by same coil current.

MUTUAL INDUCED EMF It is an emf induced by the coil due to time varying flux which is produced by other coil current which is mutually coupled.

WORKING PRINCIPLE OF TRANSFORMER Transformer is a static device which transfer power from one circuit to another circuit with same frequency. It can decrease or increase voltage with corresponding to increase or decrease of current Transformer is a device which is made laminated iron core and two ends of the iron core is wounded with wire in order to have inductance principle. The transformer will be electrically seperated but magnetically coupled

When one coil is connected to the source which should be AC voltage it will setup an alterating flux in the laminated ironcore which most of the flux will be linked with the coil so it will produce mutual in the secondary coil by farday law of electro magentic induction E = Mdl / dt. If the secondary coil circuit is closed then the current from first coil will flow to secondary coil hence the power will be transferred from first coil to secondary coil.

TYPES OF TRANSFORMER STEP UP TRANSFORMER The primary coil has less number of turns compared to secondary STEP DOWN TRANSFORMER The primary has more number of turns compared to secondary

POTENTIOMETER A potentiometer is defined as three terminal variable resistor in which resistance is varied manually to control the flow of current When a steady current flows through a wire of uniform cross section the potential difference of unit length of the wire is constant throughout the lenth of the wire across any two points.
