Unit Plan MEANING The plan for the instruction of a unit is known as unit plan. It is a challenging task to be formed by a teacher as part of the pedagogic analysis .

Definition of Unit Plan Preston defines a unit as “A unit is as large a block of related subject matter as can be over viewed by the learner. Sanford view “Outline of carefully selected subject matter which has been isolated because of its relationship to pupils” Wisely “ The unit is an organized body of information and experience designed to effect significant outcomes for the learner”

Characteristics of Unit Plan Objective Based :-The objective of Unit should be clearly defined and the plan of unit should be based on these objectives. Objective should be in written form. Relevant teaching aids:- A unit plan should include teaching aids how and when to be used. Teaching of unit should be supported by a set of appropriate teaching aids like charts, graphs, pictures, diagram, maps etc. Use of simple language:- An ideal unit plan should emphasize on the simplicity and clarity of the subject and the mental capacity of the students.

Continue Use of strategies, tactics, techniques and teaching aids:- A teacher should have a good command over general principles of teaching, so that he can use the strategies and the techniques accordingly in the content matter. Illustration:- An ideal unit plan should incorporates illustrations and examples related to the daily life of the students and also have effective i llustration throughout the period. Time Sense:- A unit plan prepared according to the mental level of student and duration of period can prove to be ideal one.

Continue Evaluation:- A good unit plan should also mention the method of evaluation to assess the performance of the students. Home Work:- To check the level of the acquired knowledge through class room learning, the students should be provided with the home work. A good unit plan should include relevant home assignment.

The next step are the teaching aids is to decide carefully what should be used. 6. Assignment : The final step is to decide upon the assignment to be given to students.

Demerits of Unit Plan Only experts can teach by this method which is available less in number, If it is teacher dominated, students takes less interest in learning. Proper evaluation cannot carried out in the lower classes. Wrong unit Planning can create the confusion in the mind of child.
