Basic Science (Physics) Presented by Dr Sarika P Patil 1 Sharad Institute of Technology College of engineering, Yadrav (Ichalkaranji)

Sharad Institute of Technology College of engineering, Yadrav (Ichalkaranji) 2 Outline Revision of last part Physical quantity Fundamental quantity and its unit Requirements of an good unit Derived quantity and its unit

3 Physics - All natural things which are occurs around us is called Physics. Macroscopic - We can see the object which is present in the nature. Microscopic - We can’t see the objects which are present in nature. Unit - The standard reference used for measurement of any physical quantity is called as unit. Revision Sharad Institute of Technology College of engineering, Yadrav (Ichalkaranji)

4 Definition Physical properties of an object by measurement are called as physical quantity. It consists of magnitude (the amount ) and units. Example – Sugar weight is 2kg . 2 is magnitude, kg is unit and 2kg is quantity. There are two types of physical quantities: 1) Fundamental physical quantity 2) Derived physical quantity Physical quantity Sharad Institute of Technology College of engineering, Yadrav (Ichalkaranji)

5 Fundamental Physical Quantity- The physical quantity which does not depend on any other physical quantity for their measurement, is called fundamental physical quantity. There are six fundamental physical quantities: Length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, and Luminous Intensity. Fundamental quantities and its units Sharad Institute of Technology College of engineering, Yadrav (Ichalkaranji)

6 Fundamental Units- The unit of the fundamental physical quantity which does not depend on any other fundamental units is called fundamental unit. There are six fundamental units: meter, kilogram, second, degree kelvin, ampere, and candela. Sharad Institute of Technology College of engineering, Yadrav (Ichalkaranji)

7 Serial No. Fundamental Physical Quantity Units of Fundamental Physical Quantity Symbol of Units of Fundamental Physical Quantity 1 Length meter m 2 Mass kilogram kg 3 Time second s 4 Temperature kelvin o K 5 Electric current ampere A 6 Luminous Intensity candela cd Fundamental quantities, units and symbols Sharad Institute of Technology College of engineering, Yadrav (Ichalkaranji)

8 Physical Quantity - Physical properties of an object by measurement are called as physical quantity. Fundamental Physical Quantity - The physical quantity which does not depend on any other physical quantity for their measurement, is called fundamental physical quantity. Fundamental Units- The unit of the fundamental physical quantity which does not depend on any other fundamental units is called fundamental unit.
