Marshall McLuhan- “ Composed of subgroups from within the notion of cyberspace in a global village”

Through the internet, we can now hear, see and have knowledge about the events that takes place miles from us.

This happens because of the electronic media that allows us to act and react to global issues at the same speed as normal.

Kinds of Communication -Message posting A message or a piece of information that you send to someone for them to read anytime. Example. E-mails

-Real time chat Live transmission of text message from sender to receiver. Example. Messanger

Types of Virtual Communities - Internet Message Board ( internet forums) an online discussion site where people can hold conversations in the form of posted message. Ex. Flckr tmblr reddit

- Online chat room Primary use is to share information via text with a group of other users. Example. Talk City enterchat.com match.com

-Virtual worlds A computer-based simulated environment w/c may be populated by many users who create a personal avatar and explore the virtual world, participate in its activities and communicate with others. Example: The sims Second life

- Social networks A website that allows people with similar interest to come together and share information photos and videos through social media sites. Example: FB Twitter LinkedIn

1. to socialize- meeting people playing around, sharing jokes, stories, taking interest with others Why join and build a virtual community?

2. work together- work groups among companies and their teams help them to keep in touch and work on project together. It provides discussion, forums and support groups in the team

Disadvantages of Virtual Community Reliability While instant communication means fast access, it also mean that the information is posted without being reviewed for correctness.

Identity Theft Deliberate use of someone else’s identity usually for a method to gain a financial advantage or obtain credit and other benefits in other persons name.
