2. Introduction of Vitamin Vitamins are organic compounds required by the body in small amounts for normal growth, development, and maintenance of health. They do not provide energy , but they are essential for the proper functioning of enzymes and metabolic processes. Classification of Vitamins: 1. Fat-Soluble Vitamins: Stored in body fat and liver. Examples: Vitamin A, D, E, K 2. Water-Soluble Vitamins: Not stored in the body; excess is excreted in urine. Examples: Vitamin B-complex (B₁, B₂, B₃, B₆, B₁₂, etc.) and Vitamin C

Cod Liver Oil Synonyms: Oleum jecoris (Latin), Fish liver oil, Oil of cod liver Biological Source: Cod liver oil is obtained from the fresh livers of Gadus morrhua and other species of cod fish. Family: Gadidae . ( गादिदे। ) PHYSICAL PROPERTIES: Pale yellow, transparent oily liquid. Has a fishy odor and unpleasant taste . Insoluble in water, but soluble in chloroform, ether, and light petroleum .

4. CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS: Vitamins: Rich source of Vitamin A and Vitamin D . Fatty acids: Contains omega-3 fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) . Glycerides of oleic, palmitic, and stearic acids. Minor amounts of cholesterol and iodine-containing compounds. THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY / USES: Used in the treatment and prevention of rickets and osteomalacia (Vitamin D deficiency). Promotes healthy bones, teeth, and vision . Acts as a nutritional supplement and immunity booster . Useful in cardiovascular health due to omega-3 fatty acids. Applied externally for wound healing and skin health .

Shark Liver Oil Synonyms: Oleum ichthyic hepatis (general term for fish liver oils), Shark oil, Squalene oil Biological Source: Shark liver oil is obtained from the livers of various species of sharks, mainly Centrophorus squamosus , & Squalus acanthias . ( सेंट्रोफोरस स्क्वैमोसस, और स्क्वैलस एकेंथियास। ) Family: Squalidae . ( स्क्वैलिडे ) PHYSICAL PROPERTIES: Pale yellow to colorless oily liquid. Has a characteristic fishy odor and mild taste . Insoluble in water, soluble in ether and chloroform .

6. CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS: Squalene (main constituent; an unsaturated hydrocarbon). Alkylglycerols (1-O-alkylglycerols) which help immune function. Vitamins A and D (small quantities). Triglycerides of unsaturated fatty acids. THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY / USES: Used as a dietary supplement to improve immunity and stamina . Squalene acts as an antioxidant and helps in oxygen transport in tissues. Supports wound healing and skin regeneration . Used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations . May have anticancer and antimicrobial properties (under research).
