Objectives: To understand the meaning of the new words. To understand the synonyms and antonyms of each new word

1-Devastation Destruction, desolation, or damage. Ex: the floods caused widespread devastation she spoke of her  devastation  at his death

2-Vulnerable Easily injured or hurt physically or emotionally; open to criticism or attack subjected to physical or emotional attack or harm. Ex: employees must be better trained in how to deal with  vulnerable  young people small fish are  vulnerable  to predators

3-Besieged To crowd around, to overwhelm, to enclose with armed forces. Ex: the place is surrounded by armed forces aiming to capture it or force surrender.

4-autonomy Independence, self-control, self-sufficiency. Ex:   autonomy  is still a long way off for many women

5-Inclement Implacable, harsh, stormy , without mercy. Ex: walkers should be prepared for  inclement  weather

6-Latitude Freedom, scope, free to move. Ex: journalists have considerable latitude in criticizing public figures.

7-perseverance The act or habit of holding to a course of action or belief, persistence, steadfastness, determination. Ex: medicine is a field which requires dedication and  perseverance To win the race you must have perseverance.

8-Wreaking To inflict, (as vengeance or punishment); to express (anger or hatred),   to cause great damage. Ex:   A powerful tornado wreaked havoc  on the small village. The virus wreaked havoc on my computer.

9-Wane To decrease gradually, to decline in power, or size. Ex: the moon is waning. His popularity is waning, he’s not the star anymore.

10-Precarious Unsafe, insecure, dangerous. Ex: “this is a precarious ladder, it might fall” “Again she had allowed herself to be put in a precarious situation”
