About This Presentation

Overview on waste-to-energy conversion

Slide Content

Waste to Energy Conversion

Origin of waste Definition Waste is a product or substance which is no longer suited for its intended use . Whereas in natural ecosystems waste (i.e. oxygen, carbon dioxide and dead organic matter) is used as food or a reactant, waste materials resulting from human activities are often highly resilient and take a long time to decompose.

Classification

Solid waste management in Europe

Urban India (about 377 million people) generates 62 million tonnes of  municipal solid waste  (MSW) each year. About 43 million tonnes (70%) are collected 11.9 million tonnes (20%) are treated and 31 million tonnes (50%) are dumped in landfill sites

Trend towards WTE Land Scarcity for land filling Ground water quality Europe and Japan in 1960’s planned for WTE’s
