What is Water Crisis? Water is the true elixir of life. It is the basis of life on Earth. When a place lacks its fresh water resources for general use and can’t meet the standard water demand, it is known as water crisis or water scarcity.
What are the Types of Water Crisis? There are two types of Water Crisis:- Physical Water Crisis Economic Water Crisis
Types of Water Crisis Physical Water Scarcity Physical water scarcity is where there is not enough water to meet all demands, including that needed for ecosystems to function effectively. Arid areas like Central and West Asia and North Africa often suffer from Physical Water Scarcity Economic Water Scarcity E conomic water scarcity is caused by a lack of investment in infrastructure or technology to draw water from rivers, aquifers, or other water sources, or insufficient human capacity to satisfy the demand for water. Much of Sub-Saharan Africa is characterized by economic water scarcity.
Causes of Water Scarcity Water shortages can be caused by climate changes like altered weather patterns including droughts and floods, increased pollution, and increased human demand and overuse of water.
How to prevent Water Scarcity? Water Conservation: Water conservation is the practice of using water efficiently to reduce unnecessary water usage. Demand Side Water Management: It can be defined as reducing the amount of water that is being used by people for specific purposes, such as household use, for farming, or for municipal or industrial needs.
Expanding sources of Usable Water: We can expand the sources of usable water. Rain Water Harvesting: We can collect rain water which can be used in the future for several things. Virtual Water Trade: The virtual water trade is the hidden flow of water in food or other commodities that are traded from one place to another.
