Conclusion

Research Objectives
- Assessment of water use and water loss at
campus.
- Dissemination of sustainable water use at
campus.
-Assessment and calculation of water footprints
at campus with international standard
calculator methodology.
- Assessment and development of guidelines for
consumption, conservation & reuse of water at
campus.
- Media awareness campaign about water
conservation.

The water footprint concept
► The WF is an indicator of water use that looks at both direct
and indirect water use of a consumer or product.
► Water use is measured in terms of:
- water volumes consumed (evaporated or otherwise not returned)
- polluted per unit of time
► Selected Geographical Boundary is: University of Gujrat
► A WF can be calculated for:
- process
- product
- consumer
- group of consumers (e.g. platform, municipality, province, state,
nation) - producer (e.g. farm land, industry, organization, gov./private
enterprise)

Water footprint levels
Green, Blue and Grey water footprints

Water footprint levels
Green water footprint
► volume of rainwater
evaporated.
Blue water footprint
► volume of surface or
groundwater evaporated.
Grey water footprint
► volume of polluted water.

The water footprint:
making a link between consumption in one place and
impacts on water systems elsewhere (production site).
Trade and Transport

In-direct water use

[Indirect water use]
One day one cup or more than one cup every day
makes a difference.

[Indirect water use]
Once in a week or once in a day
Twice in a week or Twice in a day

[Indirect water use]

Traditional
statistics on
water use

Water consumption levelsSustainable water use tips
Individual level
Direct water use efficiency
Awareness raising, reducing and
eliminating water lose & leakages.
Product & Service level
Indirect water use efficiency
Use of products and services with
less WF
Campus level
Virtual water use efficiency
Learning to conserve water to make it
available & abundant from scarce level.
Sustainable water use guidelines
Key Point: Just careful individual use is not the only measure to
conserve water, market & trade must switch to low WF.
