What am I looking at?
It's a hedgehog! In autumn, hedgehogs are getting ready to hibernate. They eat as much as they can, munching on worms, beetles and other insects. They also build their nests using leaves, ready to hibernate in winter. Why do you think hedgehogs hibernate in winter and not summer?
What am I looking at?
It’s a combine harvester. A combine harvester gets its name from being able to do different jobs at the same time. It is able to cut the crop, collect the grain and separate the parts that can be eaten from the parts that can't. It then gets rid of the parts that can’t be eaten. Why do combine harvesters collect the grain in autumn?

Pumpkins! Did you know that almost every part of a pumpkin can be eaten? The leaves, skin, flesh and seeds can be eaten – just don’t eat the stalk! Why are pumpkins popular for carving at Halloween? Think about the shape and size of them.

They are pine cones! Pine cones contain the tree's seeds and keep them safe. Their scales close to protect the seeds from cold weather and even from animals that might eat them. We see lots of pine cones on the ground in autumn. What does this tell us about a pine tree?

It is a wood! Leaves fall off deciduous trees in autumn and land on the ground. Lots of small creatures use these leaves for food or shelter. What animals might you find under a pile of leaves?

It’s a squirrel! Squirrels have a strong sense of smell. They can even smell nuts buried under a thick layer of snow. Why do you think squirrels bury nuts underground? What are they preparing for?

Apples! If you were to plant an apple seed today, it would take between 7 and 10 years for it to begin to grow apples. Can you name the different parts of an apple tree?

Conkers! Conkers are also called horse chestnuts. The green spiky ball that has the conker inside is the fruit of a horse chestnut tree. The conker is the seed. Why do we see lots of conkers on the ground in autumn? What happens to them once they are on the ground?

Acorns! An acorn is the fruit of an oak tree. Inside the acorn is the seed that will grow into a new tree. Can you think of any animals that might eat acorns?
What am I looking at?
An autumn leaf! In autumn, there are fewer hours of sunlight than in summer. Leaves need sunlight to be green and so in autumn, they begin to change colour because they are getting less sunlight. What colours do the leaves turn in autumn?
