Who is Weaverbird ? A Weaverbird is a small bird like Sparrow belonging to the family Ploceidae. Weaver birds are also called as weavers , weaverbirds , weaver finches and bishops . They are best known for their hanging retort shaped nests woven from leaves or plant fibers. Scientific name : Ploceus philippinus Local names :- Marathi Sugran,Baya,Vinkar Hindi Baya,Sonchidi Sanskrit Sagruhkarta
Species of Weaverbird :- There are 57 species of the Weaverbird , which are often divided under group names, such as masked weavers and golden weavers. The main groups of weavers include: buffalo weavers, sparrow weavers, social weavers, true (Ploceus) weavers, malimbes, queleas, fodies, bishops and widows.

What colours are Weavers? Male Weaverbirds are often yellow, red and black although females are often dull brown colours.
Life span of Weaverbirds Average lifespan of Weaverbirds is 10 to 15 years.
Where are Weaverbirds found? Weaverbirds are found in countries like India,Pakistan,Srilanka,Bangladesh, Myanmar,etc.
In which habitats are weaverbirds found? The main habitats where weavers are found are semi-arid areas, savanna, grasslands and forests.
Where do Weaverbirds build their nest? Their nest colonies are usually found on thorny trees or palm fronds and the nests are often built near water or hanging over water where predators cannot reach easily. eg:Babool,Neem,etc.
It uses grass stems and other plant fibers to build nest. May- September is the nest building period . Male bird weave 4-10 half prepared nest and shows them to female bird. If female bird found it safe to stay then later male bird completes it In that nest female bird lays eggs and take care of her childrens.
