About This Presentation

Defining Patterns of trends

Slide Content

Lesson Objectives: At the end of the lesson the students must be able to: 1. identify the parts of a whole of an emerging pattern 2. identify and explain the emergence of trends. 3. identify and explain types of data emerging pattern. 4. identify the causes and consequences of a trend; and 5. illustrate the causes and consequences of a trend in a specific discipline: technology, education, social media, fashion and medicine

Activity: 1 Browse the internet and look for the following. Note: Kindly includes the pictures Linear Trend Exponential Trend Damped Trend Seasonal Trend Cyclical Trend

Defining Patterns

Patterns in trends are the techniques, commonly used by an analyst to know the current supply and demand of specific assets traded on the market. A trend is the common direction of an asset’s price in a certain period of time.

Linear Trend A linear pattern is a continuous decrease or increase in numbers over time. On a graph, this data appears as a straight line angled diagonally up or down (the angle may be steep or shallow). So, the trend either can be upward or downward.

Exponential Trend This technique produces nonlinear curved lines where the data rises or falls, not at a steady rate, but at a higher rate. Instead of a straight line pointing diagonally up, the graph will show a curved line where the last point in later years is higher than the first year, if the trend is upward.

Damped Trend In this analysis, the line is curved line to show data values rising or falling initially, and then showing a point where the trend (increase or decrease) stops rising or falling.

Seasonality Trend One can identify a seasonality pattern when fluctuations repeat over fixed periods of time and are therefore predictable and where those patterns do not extend beyond a one-year period. Seasonality may be caused by factors like weather, vacation, and holidays. It usually consists of periodic, repetitive, and generally regular and predictable patterns. Seasonality can repeat on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis.

Cyclical Trend Cyclical patterns occur when fluctuations do not repeat over fixed periods of time and are therefore unpredictable and extend beyond a year.

Differentiating Relationships between Causes and Consequences of Trends

Many young people spend their leisure time playing games. Some enjoy outdoor games like piko , patintero , and tumbang preso , while others like board games and video games, which are usually played indoors. What kind of games did you enjoy when you were younger? How are they different from popular games nowadays?

Think-Pair-Share With a partner, identify a 21st-century trend that affects Filipino youth. Choose a trend not given as an example in the previous meetings. Discuss its causes and consequences. Be ready to share your insights to the rest of the class.

Guide Question What is an example of a trend that affects Filipino youth? In what ways does the trend affect Filipino youth? How should the Filipino youth respond to the trend?

Some terms to remember: Cause exists when an object, condition, or event is the direct reason for the emergence of a trend Consequence exists when an object, condition, or event only appears with the emergence of a trend

Causes of Trends

improvement of existing technology invention of new technology Technological Innovations

Institutional Changes changes in the patterns that are embedded in social institutions

Demographic Changes The shifts in characteristics of a population also lead to the emergence of a trend. Examples of demographic indicators include birth, death, migration, and fertility rates. Trends are driven by the rise or fall of these factors, which are also considered as trends in their own right. To illustrate, think of how population growth affects the priorities of the government.

Ideational change  Ideation refers to a predictive model of behavior change that examines how people think about and perceive behaviors

Environmental Changes The social world is not separate from the natural world. This means that natural events influence social patterns

Enumerate the causes of a trend that affects your choice of course?

Consequences of Trends Observe the picture !

impacts of a trend on the overall structure of society Macro Meso Micro

effects of a trend on communities, institutions, and organizations. Macro Meso Micro

observable in changes in human interactions or self Macro Meso Micro

Example: PANDEMIC Macro : made countries more interconnected Meso : modified the role of the government in the economy Micro : individuals suffer from famine

Example: Coastal Clean-up Macro : Entire barangay is cleaning the coastal area . Meso : Your group of friends is cleaning the coastal area. Micro : You cleaning the coastal.

Activity : Poster Making Illustrate the causes of a trend in the Philippine setting. And what are the possible consequences in terms of the following: Technology Education Social Media Health

Criteria: Originality – 15% Visual Impact - 15 % Relevance - 20% Total - 50%
