Prevention and Management of Environmental Health Issues

As a student, making small steps and adjustments in your daily routine will give you a sense of success and a yearning to attempt more in managing and preventing environmental health issues. By starting it to yourself, or even in your own home and family, you will start to do it regularly as your habit since you know that its benefits are not only for you but for the people you live together in your community.

Simple Ways to D o to Help the Environment and Inspire Others to Boost their Environmental Awareness.

Replace disposable items with reusable . Anything you use and throw away can potentially spend centuries in a landfill. Simple adjustments you can make to decrease the number of disposable items in your daily life such as carry your own reusable cup or water bottle, bring your own bags to grocery store and use rechargeable batteries.

Conserve water and electricity . Turning off the faucet when brushing your teeth, switching off anything that uses electricity when not in use (like television, computer and etc.) and others can help us conserve water and energy.

Dispose Waste Properly Throwing garbage and waste properly will ensure a healthy environment. Classifying the biodegradable and non-biodegradable is an act that shows our personal responsibilities towards our neighbors and environment.

Three Principles in Waste Management

Reduce Use natural resources wisely and using less than usual in order to avoid waste

Reuse You can reuse materials in their original form instead of throwing them away, or pass those materials to others who could use them too.

Recycle Don’t throw away anything that can be recycled. Implementing recycling habits into your daily life is one of the most effective ways to help lessen landfill waste, conserve natural resources, save habitats, reduce pollution, cut down on energy consumption, and slow down global warming.

Proper Home Management Good habits in maintaining a clean home environment will contribute to the environmental hygiene and will protect everybody’s health in the community. Every good practice starts from home. Managing the environment properly must begin first inside our own home.

Promote Stewardship as Moral Responsibility Moral responsibility is nothing more that our capacity to be human and being able to take care of everything around us.

Environmental awareness It is anchored in the ideology of environmentalism that evokes the necessity and responsibility of humans to respect, protect and preserve the natural world from its anthropogenic (caused by humans) afflictions.

4 Criteria of Moral Responsibility 1. The person has knowledge of the consequences of the act. 2. The person has the capacity to do the act. 3. The person has the choice to do it. 4. The person has concern and responsibility towards nature.

To become an environmental steward and can participate in creating a brighter future for the next generation, we need to promote environmental awareness.

Protecting the Environment 1. Community Recycling 2. Protecting the environment from the pollution Water pollution and sanitation Land pollution and Sanitation Noise pollution Air pollution Oil Pollution Pesticides and persistent organic pollutants Radiation
