MICHAEL M. COROZA 01

Introduction Born on August 26, 1969 in Ermita, Manila , Michael Coroza is a multi-awarded poet, essayist, translator, editor, and educator. He spent his childhood in San Pablo City, Laguna.

Introduction He writes poetry, fiction, critical essays, and engaged in Literary Translation. He’s works have been published in National and International Literary Magazines: Kritika Kultura , Philippine Studies, Unita, Tomas, Bulawan Journal of Arts and Culture, Daluyan , Loyala School’s Review, and the Malay Indonesian Studies.

Introduction He is famous for promoting the Traditional Poetic Genre of the Philippines “BALAGTASAN”. He has a column in Literary Magazine Haraya (Imagination), and Liwayway (Dawn). He participated in International Poetry Readings at “Kuala Lumpur” (2011).

MANUEL E. ARGUILLA 02

Introduction Manuel E. Arguilla  was born on June 17, 1911 in  Nagrebcan , Bauang , La Union  to parents Crisanto Arguilla , a farmer, and Margarita Estabillo , a potter. Their ordinary living was not a hindrance for Manuel to attain his dreams especially in literature.

Introduction His famous works were compiled in a book entitled  How my Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife (And Other Stories)  published by  Philippine Book Guild  which received first prize in the Common Wealth Literary Contest in 1940.

ANTHONY TAN 03

Introduction ANTHONY L TAN was born in Siasi , Sulu, on 26 August 1947 to Utoh Hotiong Tan and Kimchu Lu, both of Chinese Sama descent. He is the fifth of ten children. He earned his BA English from the Ateneo de Zamboanga in 1968 and went on to Silliman University in Dumaguete City for both his MA Creative Writing (1975) and PHD. British Literature (1982).

Introduction Together with Jaime An Lim and Christine Godinez Ortega, he helped organize the first Iligan National Writers Workshop/Literature Teachers Conference in 1993. He has won a number of awards for his writings, among them the Focus Philippines award for poetry , the Palanca 1st prize for “Poems for Muddas ” (1993) and another Palanca for the essay.

JOSE I ÑIGO HOMER LACAMBRA AYALA 04

Introduction Joey Ayala ( born  Jose Inigo Homer Lacambra Ayala  on June 1,1956 in Bukidnon,Philippines ) is a contemporary pop music artist in the Philippines.

Introduction A native of Bukidnon who was known as columnist, folk and contemporary pop music artist in the Philippines, as well as his strong environmental affection that can be found on his incredibly musical compositions. Born to a family of artists, his father Joey Ayala is a Painter while his mother Tita Lacambra is a Poet.

Introduction His famous song compositions include  Karaniwang Tao ,  Bathala ,  Aguila ,  Papel   and many others. Recorded and released 14 albums in the country including abroad.  He was the founder of the famous band named "Bagong Lumad " which means "New Native"

Introduction Receiving prestigious awards like  Jaycees Ten Outstanding Young Men  in the Philippines in 1990 and  Metropop Song Festival  grand prize after he composed a song for The Concert King Martin Nievera, The  Datu Bago Award  and the 2013  Philippine Popular Music Festival  as composer and interpreter of the song " Papel ".  

MERLIE M. ALUNAN 05

Introduction Merlie M. Alunan (born December 14, 1943, in Dingle, Iloilo) is a Filipina poet. Alunan graduated from Silliman University with an MA in Creative Writing in 1974.

Introduction Merlie M. Alunan is the author of the following poetry collections: Hearthstone, Sacred Tree (Anvil, 1993); Amina Among the Angels (UP Press, 1998); Selected Poems (UP Press 2004);

Introduction Tales of the Spider Woman (University of Santo Tomas Publishing House, 2010); Pagdakop sa Bulalakaw ug uban pang mga Balak (Ateneo Press, 2013); and Running with Ghosts and Other Poems (Ateneo de Naga University Press, 2017), which won the 37th National Book Award for poetry in 2017.

Introduction Born in the Philippines and raised in Australia, she lived in Scotland, Ireland and Wales before moving to Auckland, NZ in 2014.  T he author of  Disturbance  (Wales: Seren Books, 2013) and  Mortal  (2006). Her shorter collections include  The Everyday English Dictionary  (London: Paekakariki Press, 2016) and  Hollywood Starlet  (Chicago: dancing girl press, 2015).

Introduction S uzette Severo Doctolero  (born December 16, 1968) is a Filipina screenwriter for film and television. She is best known for being the creator of  Encantadia  in 2005 and the succeeding related television series including the  Encantadia  2016  reboot .

Introduction She is mostly credited as screenwriter, series creator and creative consultant for  GMA Network . Her other works include  Amaya ,  Indio   and  My Husband's Lover .  She also wrote the story for the film  Let the Love Begin   and became the creative consultant for the television series  Alyas Robin Hood   and  Destined to be Yours .

AIDA RIVERA-FORD 08

Introduction Aida Rivera Ford was born on January 22, 1929 in Jolo , Sulu. She finished a degree in Bachelor of Arts, Major in English at the Silliman University and graduated as Cum Laude. She became the first editor of Sands and Coral, the literary publica ti on and magazine of the aforemen ti oned university.

Introduction In 1980, she f ounded the first fine arts school in Mindanao, the Ford Academy of the Arts ( f ormerly Learning Center of the Arts).
