West 5 (www.west5.ca) is a sustainable community in London Ontario (Canada) that is powered entirely by the sun. The buildings include unsurprising features like extra insulation and good air tightness to drive down energy use, and solar panels everywhere (roofs, facades, and some parking) to generate enough energy to meet our needs. We use a local microgrid, sharing energy through a community net metered arrangement with our local utility (London Hydro). Our homes are market rate and we have a waiting list for tenants.
