Srinivas mainly to explain the changes in Indian Society as a result of Western contact (British Rule in India) Westernization is a process whereby societies come under or adopt Western culture in areas such as industry, technology, law, politics, economics, lifestyle, diet, clothing, language, alphabet, religion, philosophy, and values.

It is a pervasive and broadened concept ( Material and Non materialistic changes) It accelerates mobility outside the social framework of caste Pace of westernisation differed from place to place Introduced new law and initiated social reforms led to many changes in Indian society .
