What Are Pugs And Puffs On Magazines? By Sophie Canning

Pugs Definition of a pug-   to catch the readers eye, it's placed in the top left and right hand corner; the prices, logo and issue number are placed here Here Is the first pug which is the price Below is another pug with a quotation from an article Inside And here is the barcode All three of the pugs shown above are refereed to as pugs because they are all short yet vital parts of information about the magazine, and are all located on the top left hand part of the page. This is where readers first look, which in this case is good as straight away readers can see the price and topics of articles inside and cashiers can easily locate the barcode.

Puffs Definition of a puff- An incentive which is placed on the cover to make something stand out. Usually by putting text into a shape. This sticker which can be seen in almost every magazine and is used for promoting something inside the magazine is known as a puff (almost like a puff of information). It is different from rest of the details in the magazine . In this case, it’s a small grey circle surrounded by a black outline. The text inside the circle tells the reader that an article about J ohn L ennon will be inside. It is quick and easy for readers to see this and draws them in as they are made aware of what will be inside that magazine.
