What happened in 999? The end of a Millennium

999 AD. Vikings, Berserkers, Kraken and Valkyries. YiK was a tumultuous time. Many thought the world was going to end with the first millennia. On the verge of the first Millennium, 999 AD, a Viking longship off the coast of England is on a unique mission. Opposing it are creatures of legend and myth. And worst of all, betrayal from their own ranks.

2. It Is 999 A.D. Christianity is officially adopted in Iceland.

3. It Is 999 A.D. Gerbert of Aurillac becomes Pope Silvester II. He introduces the western world to the decimal system using Arabic numbers. He is accused of studying magical arts in Islamic cities, with charges that he is a sorcerer in league with the devil. Because, well, that’s how people react to new ideas.

4. It Is 999 A.D. Saint Adelaide, the second wife of the Holy Roman Emperor Otto the Great, and then regent of the Empire for her grandson from 991-995, passes away just before the turn of the millennia, which she had believed would bring the Second Coming.

5. It Is 999 A.D. The Samanid Dynasty, encompassing parts of Iraq and Afghanistan, ceases to exist after crumbling under an invasion from the north.

6. It Is 999 A.D. Panic over the end of the millennia has many flocking to monasteries and churches, turning over all their worldly goods in exchange for the blessing of eternal life. No one records if they got a refund.

7. It Is 999 A.D. Viking Longships are raiding England.

8. A Viking leader has a very specific target in mind. A monastery where a nun possesses a genetic code dating back to Atlantis. It Is 29 October 999 A.D. Black Tuesday

9. If he impregnates the nun, it will produce a religious Prince who can unite all of Europe and change history. It Is 29 October 999 A.D. Black Tuesday
