What is a Studio?

Definition A room where an artist, photographer, sculptor, etc., works. A place where performers, esp. dancers, practice and exercise.

An extension An extension of the artist. A place where they have the space and freedom to extract ideas from their inner creativity and physicaly conjure them into works of art.

Role/function of the studio Everybody interprets their own role of the studio because different artists work in different expressive ways.

Why are studios used? Studios are used because all the different types of artists need a space to practice in and to create their works in. A Dancer doesn’t just go straight onto a stage and dance, they need a studio to practice in. Every sort of artist needs their own space to work in.

Studio Types

Media Media used in studios can range between literally anything depending on what type of artist occupies the space. One studio could be filled with musical instruments, another could be used soley for working with cucumbers in a creative way.

Conclusion A studio is an artists space to work or practice in.
